Stop #6 of the 2014 Australian N1SCO Series headed to Western Australia last weekend and brought the action to the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park in Safety Bay. This was the first official N1SCO event on the West Coast of Australia, and very clearly not the last!

A cloudy morning with light showers soon subsided to deliver what was repeatedly commented as one of Western Australia’s most fun events to date. The combination of 200, 400 and 2000m meter sprints and progressing draws lead to many close heats especially in the women’s division.

With ages ranging from 14 to 61, the Western Australia crew came to compete, and compete they did! So many close finishes made the shoreline tense in excitement as the crowd witnessed the usual spills and banter that makes N1SCO events so special and fun.

In the end it was William Lee and Christiana Chessa taking out the overall Men’s and Women’s divisions. Special trophies were given to young Billy Hampton for Stack of the Day and to the relay team “Tripple J” (consisting of Christiana, Joe and Jack) for outstanding performances. And in the spirit of N1SCO, WA Surf handed out 2 encouragement awards for outstanding efforts and good sport spirit to Vanessa Lee and Steve Gunther.

The day finished off with great laughs in the relay event before a delicious BBQ up at WA Surf. N1SCO has definitely left an impression in Western Australia!
