January 25, 2015, Melbourne, Australia – Naish’s 2015 N1SCO Australian Tour kicked off with stop #1 of a massive 10-race calendar in Melbourne on a cool day with an onshore wind producing surf, bumps and challenges galore—signifying time for N1SCO to go BOP style.

With a massive shore break and some stubborn wind resistance, challenging conditions had the competitors working hard at the Half Moon Bay venue.

The 200m Sprint and back heats were raced with plenty of enthusiasm and the back-to-back format of N1SCO events left competitors with just enough time to catch their breath and move to the next round.

On paper, the 400m looked easy. But with waves and wind continuing to buffet the field, many were left conserving their energy to ride a wave to shore, transitioning on the beach—with board in hand—and relaunching back into the brine. Such demanding conditions left plenty of people doubled over after the 400m final.

After the sprint events, the 1km time trial commenced. The outer turn buoy was into a cross headwind and a nice direct line with runners all the way back to the beach. Crucial to ending time, the need for a good start saw competitors literally throwing themselves into the shore break in efforts to avoid paddling in the confused wash of fellow paddlers. The battle into the wind was hard, and burning muscles and tender feet where happily greeted by the fun runners back to the beach.

Smiles and pats on backs all round were very much the order of the day following the completion of another fantastic event. Massive thanks to JB and Naish Australia for providing the huge amount of resources needed to run this fantastic national series. Many thanks also to RPS The Board Store and SUP Vic for being ongoing supporters of the N1SCO formula.

Now in their 3rd year, N1SCO events continue to thrive and grow. Part of this success is due to the inclusive format, with paddlers of all ages competing in a fun and friendly atmosphere. If you haven’t yet experienced how much fun Naish ONE boards are to paddle, do it soon. Many state and local paddleboard clubs run a fleet of these boards in order help attract people to the sport—growing their clubs in a fun and exciting way. Contact them and give it go!
