June 28, 2015, Queensland, Australia – With the sound of boards being pumped by compressors, tent pegs being hammered into the ground and a whole lot of yellow starting to take over the beach it was more than evident that another incredible N1SCO event was about to take place. The chilly morning started off with 15-20 knots of wind, but with the smell of hot coffee and a lot of activity in the registration tent, it was destined to be a great day.
A total of 46 registered competitors ended up registering for this N1SCO event. Hosted and held right in front of Pro Paddle Mackay’s shop on the beautiful Mackay Marina, this has to be the most ideal racing playground—a sandy beach with protection from the wind and the perfect view for spectators.
The first race started with 100m sprints, with contestants racing to a buoy and back three times.

After the 100m warm up was the 400m racing. This course was a beach start—running down to the water, paddling out and around the bouy, and back to the beach. Each paddler had to carry their board up onto the beach and around another marker before making their way back into the water for their second lap. With the competition being solid across all divisions they had the spectators immersed in the race, anticipating the outcome. For the beginning paddlers, this race brought out the competitive side for everyone, while racing among more experienced paddlers who had already set a high benchmark of talent for the race.

The energy on the beach was high, the tunes were pumping and 46 competitors were planning their race tactics and strategies for the next race: The Team Relay. There were four in each team- with a minimum of 1 Female and 1 Junior. The races included 100m standard relay with 1 bouy turn followed by a two person prone paddle, including 1 bouy turn just to mix things up. The different techniques happening on the water were very entertaining—a highlight for everyone and huge crowd pleaser. By the end of the day everyone was having so much fun they managed to load 40 people onto 10+ boards for a finale picture.
