September 13-14, 2014 – The 2nd annual N1SCO World Championship event made its mark in Germany this past weekend on picturesque Lake Chiemsee. This event attracted paddlers from over 16 nations and was also the first ever SUP event in Germany with more than 100 registered paddlers!
The event kicked off on Saturday with an opening speech from “The Boss” himself, Robby Naish, as well as the Major of Bernau and Chuck Patterson. Although weather conditions weren’t as sunny as expected, that didn’t stop participants from taking their place at the starting line with their Naish ONE Inflatable’s for a chance to grab a podium spot! With a bang, the Men’s Sprints were underway followed by the Women’s and Youth (16 and under) Sprint races. After a brief break in the afternoon (where paddlers took full advantage of the mobile sauna to keep warm!), they continued with the Intermediate Distance race.
On Sunday, participants as young as 8 years old lined up for the Long Distance race where Robby maintained his position in the back of the field, motivating paddlers and sharing laughs with the kids. Shortly after, the Team Relay concluded the event as 14 teams of 4 (with one woman per team) raced each other in what seemed like the race of a lifetime! Even Austrian ski jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer made an appearance, racing with fellow Red Bull athletes Manca Notar (Team Naish) and Sigi Grabner (Professional Austrian snowboarder) as well as Noelani Sach.
Taking the overall Championship titles were Naish’s Manca Notar and Daniel Reinhart! Manca dominated this year’s event yet again on the Women’s side as she won all her races and left little room for the competition. Daniel racked up the points during the weekend’s variety of races and was more than stoked to take the crown (and Lederhosen) on the Men’s side!
